British Championships Successes

This Autumn has seen the re-start of fencing competitions and, in particular, the British Fencing older age-group and senior championships, and ZFW has seen great successes across all the categories - Under 17 (known as 'Cadets'), Under 20 ('Juniors'), Under 23 and the Seniors.


Cadets


The run of successes started in Nottingham on 11th September, where ZFW took both the Men's and Women's titles.


David Sosnov was crowned British Cadet champion after beating Salle Holyrood's Jaimie Cook 15-12 in a thrilling final. Alex Kennedy and Sebastian Beardmore-Esteban both finished in the last eight. Full results can be found here.


The Women's championship saw an all-ZFW final in which Carolina Stutchbury edge Amelie Tsang 15-14 to take the title. Full results.





Juniors


The under 20 category took place at the same venue the next day, and, for the second time that weekend, the women's crown went to Carolina Stutchbury, with Amelie Tsang knocked out again by a single point to soon-to-be club-mate Teagan Williams-Stewart. Teagan went on to take the silver, and Amelie finished just outside the medals in 5th place. Full results.


In the men's competition, Dario Stenbeck-Schiavo and David Williams took silver and bronze, respectively. Full results.





Under 23s



The Leon Paul Centre in Hendon played host to the Under 23 British Championships over the weekend of the 16th and 17th October. ZFW scooped up an incredible five of the available eight foil medals.


First up, the women's competition was dominated by ZFW, with three out of the four podium positions being taken by the club: Gold to Yasmin Campbell, Silver to Teagan Williams-Stewart and Bronze to Amelie Tsang. Full results.


On the Sunday, the Men's competition saw reigning champion Dominic De Almeida getting knocked out by a single point in his semi-final to take bronze, and in the other semi final, club-mate David Williams lost by only a couple of points to take the other bronze. Matthew Abrahams and Dario Stenbeck-Schiavo ended up just off the podium, in 5th and 6th places, respectively. Full results.






Seniors


The British Senior Championships took place over the weekend of the 6th and 7th November at SportDock in London's Docklands.


The Men's Championships took place on the Saturday, with ten ZFW members - taking part. Dominic De Almeida took the highest raking, just outside the medals in 5th place. with club-mate David Sosnov also making it to the last 8. Peter Barwell and Dario Stenbeck--Schiavo getting through to the last 16. Men's full results here.


Seven ZFW women entered the naitonal championships the next day, with ZFW picking up an outstanding three out of the four medals on offer. Caroline Stutchbury pulled of a hat-trick of titles, beating club-mate Yasmin Campbell in the final. Teagan Williams-Stewart picked up bronze. Amelie Tsang made it through to the last 8.
