Ziemek: BF Performance Coach of the Year
ZFW's founder and Head Coach, Ziemek Wojciechowski, was awarded Performance Coach of the Year at the 2017 British Fencing Awards.
In the past year, Ziemek has seen many of his elite athletes achieve great results, including Richard Kruse winning the Shanghai Grand Prix and finishing fourth in the Rio Olympics.
Other notable successes include European U23 Champion (Alexander Choupenitch), British Senior Champion (Richard Kruse) and Bronze medalist (James-Andrew Davis) and many gold, silver and bronze medalists across the age groups a the British and English Youth Championships.
In the latest National Rankings, Ziemek coaches 7 out of the top 16 senior foilists. In the 2017 senior European Championships, he had 3 fencers in the last eight, more than any other country!
Ziemek has coached, and continues to coach, many of the country's top fencers. Indeed, he has coached the entire GB 2016 Olympic foil squad of Kruse, Davis, Halstead and Mepstead for a combined total of over 70 years! Ziemek, himself, is a 10-time Olympian as both fencer and coach.
The British Fencing Awards, being held for the second time, took place during the Cadet & Junior Championships at the University of Nottingham. A packed out audience, full of the good and the great of the sport – athletes, coaches, referees, volunteers, parents and administrators – enjoyed an evening during which fifteen awards were presented.
